Week 19 – November 24th – 5:38 pm (Its not going to get any darker than this!)

-14 degrees
Sunrise – 9:18am
Sunset – 3:30pm

What a week… not only are we loosing daylight and warmth, but we’re getting snow fairly regularly… which, funnily enough is good. By this time of year the snow has stopped because it has gotten too cold to snow.

Its has been an insane week and I have been really late in digging out the tripod to take this picture…. not too shabby. Thanks Bridget Steis for your input on this project. It makes a huge difference to use the tripod and sit on the flash.

In just a few weeks we’ll be on the upswing…. light will be coming back!

Week 22 – December 13th – 5:47 pm (Its not going to get any darker than this!)

-4 degrees
Sunrise – 10:01am
Sunset – 3:03pm

Not sure what the difference in settings was here… it was quite dark out when I took this picture… I didn’t use a flash… but it kind looks more mid day.

One of these days I hope to capture a snowmobiler racing over the frozen lake….

Well, it’s here! The Winter Solstice. While some of us are celebrating a spiritual occasion tonight, there are a lot of us in the NWT who are breathing a sigh of relief. We’ve made it through the darkest days, and from this point forward, its all about the light.

Happy Solstice to everyone.

Week 24 – December 27th – 5:28 pm (Its not going to get any darker than this!)

-26 degrees
Sunrise – 10:08am

We have gained an extra five minutes of light today, compared to last week. Life is good.

The holiday festivities are winding down and we’re getting ready for the new year and new beginnings. Can anyone guess what the blob of light is in this pic… not the moon… perhaps a plane?
