I’ve wanted to do a version of this project for awhile. I plan to take a photo at the same time, on the same day of each week of the year, in the same place… to track the change in light here in Yellowknife.
I started on the summer solstice which happens to be the longest day of the year… watch the light fade for the next six months and in December, watch it return over the next six months.

June 21st – Week 1
Sunday 6pm
Week 2 – June 28th
Sunday – 6pm
Hot day today… 26 degrees with periodic clouds
Week 3 – July 6th
Monday – 6pm – 14 degrees
I chose to zoom out a bit this week, just because the contrast in the sky was kinda dramatic, throw in the rocks and its a pretty decent shot! smile emoticon
Also, one day late for this shot… someone else cooked up supper last night… couldn’t say, no!
Week 4 – July 12th
6pm – 21 degrees
The wind has shifted direction and we’re getting some of the smoke from the surrounding fires today.
Week 5 – July 19th – 6:24 pm
17degrees
I was a bit disapointed in the clouds in the first shot. There were lots and they seemed washed out in the photos… it occured to me to check my settings. I usually shoot on Auto, but had switched it to take some pictures last weekend to Scene. This shot is 24mins later using Auto instead of scene…. closer to waht it’s really like outside, but I didn’t realize it was actully that dark out!
Week 6 – July 27th – 6:00 pm
22 degrees
About a week or so ago, I thought for sure fall was on the way, after all, it was almost August… this week makes it seem like we have a few more days of summer left.
Week 7 – August 3rd – 6:00 pm
23 degrees
It was a gorgeous weekend. Sun burns and all! Today the smoke rolled in, but the heat didn’t roll out. Perhaps we’ll have a bit more summer yet!
Week 8 – August 10th – 6:14 pm
22 degrees
The day started off raining and ended with thunder and lightening. In between we lived this beauty.
Week 9 – August 17th – 6:09 pm
18 degrees
Its a beautiful day. The sun is hot, but the breeze is cool. We’ve been getting a lot of rain lately, including a big down pour late last night.
I took this picture while on the phone with a good friend who is planning to visit us next year! Woo hoo!
Week 10 – August 23rd – 6:00 pm
16 degrees
Its been a wet and rainy week. Today ended up being a beautiful fall day…. on that note, I believe summer is officially over in YK!
Week 11 – August 31st – 6:00 pm
17 degrees
Sunrise 6:25am and sunset 8:51pm
It was a beautiful fall day. Most of Yellowknife’s kids started school, so Facebook is already starting to flow with the first day of school photos.
