A Paper Doll Tribute to Women of all Kinds

by Bridget — May 16, 2011

I’d like this post to be a tribute of women of all kinds. Women are required to wear so many different hats – even in the course of one single day. A paper doll is an excellent example of one woman fulfilling so many responsibilities & expectations. We try so hard to live up to the ideals but how much can one single woman actually manage at once? As a single parent my mother filled many roles: plumber, carpenter, handy(wo)man, bread winner, nurturer, disciplinarian, chauffeur, party planner, chef, counselor, friend, fan club, gardener, show shoveler, photographer, tickle monster, bug killer & still the list goes on. That doesn’t even include non-motherly things such as all of the jobs & professional positions she’s held or other aspects of character such as sex kitten, party animal & dirty joke teller.

When I think of the word ‘woman’ it can mean so many different things because women have so many different sides & abilities. We all have the ability to be a princess one day and a slob the next. I have deep admiration for women who have lead the way for younger generations. Without our grandmothers and mothers we wouldn’t be able to have so many opportunities that we do today. I don’t think we should worry too hard about our perceptions of others, especially as compared to ourselves. Sometimes we can’t be perfect homemakers, CEOs, mothers, wives, children because we’re too busy wearing so many other hats at once – where are all the personal assistants and domestic helpers when you need them! Ah never mind, it’s time to embrace the great diversity of women even within our own self because what could be more wonderful than having such a broad perspective on life?
