Islay - blue, white and green, as far as you can see.

(A small offering today, due to travel and the complications of writing anything longer than a text message on a tablet Swype keyboard)

There are a lot of things I wish I’d had time to do.

I took voice lessons as a kid and I always told myself I’d go back to them as soon as I had time as an adult (and maybe actually pay attention this time around). It makes me happy to see that Bridget followed through on a similar promise she made to herself. I wish I’d learnt to play an instrument, besides “Chopsticks” on the piano. I wish I could speak another language besides Slightly Above Average Tourist Japanese and Mandarin phrases suitable for controlling small children (“Don’t do that””Give that to me””Wash your hands, please”).

But I’m lucky in that I get to do a great deal of things on my wish list, regardless of how long and theoretical said wish list is. Travel, enjoying quality time on my own, creating great memories, and the chance to combine all these things, like when I composed this post. It was a beautiful sunny morning in Port Ellen, which is a small village on the Hebridean island of Islay. My boyfriend was enjoying one of the island’s specialties – whisky distilleries, while I was enjoying another – spectacular views from the bay. It was just me, my headphones and notepad, and a sparkling sea.

Because everything is better with an appropriate soundtrack, I chose a few favourite songs to score my vista. I can’t claim to have sung or played the tunes (unless pushing the “Play” button counts), but as I listened to them and started at tiny boats on the horizon, my heart was full, everything felt perfect, and I couldn’t help but share.

Embedding clips on a tablet is beyond me, so I hope a link is enough to get you part of the way there:
